第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分30分)

第一节(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)

A

At thirteen, I was diagnosed with a kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.

In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.”

She glanced down at me through her glasses, “You are no different from your classmates, young man.”

I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.

In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots(点),which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.

Wasn’t I the “blind” in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students? My thoughts spilled out and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was no different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up?

I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day—with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words: “See what you can do when you keep trying?”

21. What does the attention disorder mean?

  1. It means the author can’t study well in class. B. He has some difficulty in focusing on tasks.

C. He can’t read or write in literature class. D. He can’t understand the teacher well.

22. What does the underlined sentence mean?

  1. He understood the meaning of the story. B. He had pity on Louis Braille as well as himself. C. He got encouraged from Louis Braille’s story. D. He thought a lot from the story.

23. The main idea of the passage is “_______” .

  1. The disabled should be treated with respect.
    B. A teacher can open up a new world to students.
    C. One can find his way out of difficulties with efforts.
    D. Everyone needs a hand when faced with challenges.

Widely acknowledged (承认) as the largest industrial and economic center in southwestern China, Chongqing city is a popular destination for travelers with its hilly slopes, rivers, night views and spicy (辛辣的) food.
Meaning"double celebration" in Chinese, the city was built in the 11th century B.C. during the Zhou Dynasty. The city was founded in 1997. Up to then, it was a city of Sichuan Province. Now, Chongqing is the biggest city in China in terms of area and population.
Known as one of China’s"Three Furnaces(火炉)", Chongqing is unbearably hot during the summer. The surrounding mountains seem to trap the heat. It is pleasant to visit the city in other seasons.
Also known as"Fog City" in addition to"the Furnace", Chongqing is covered with a thick layer of fog for an average of 68 days a year, usually in spring and autumn. The fog gives the place an air of mystery.
Spreading across a number of low hills (with an average height of 400 meters), surrounded by mountains, and stretching across the Yangtze River, Chongqing is a natural wonder.
But it is to cruise(巡游) down China’s longest river, the Yangtze, passing through the famous Three Gorges(三峡) that most tourists come to Chongqing. There is no better place to start a Three Gorges river tour.
Chongqing’s hot spicy food is famous. The well-known dish is the hotpot, which is a boiling pot that you can put various uncooked food items into. The meal always takes a long time, so it is good to eat it in the company of others.

    24. Which of the following aspects of Chongqing is mentioned in the passage?
    1. The modern development. B. The kindness of its people.

C. Traditional customs. D. The climate.

25. According to the passage, the hills in Chongqing ____.
     A. make the weather more pleasant in summer B. can be found nearly everywhere

C. are very high and foggy D. play a part in causing the fog

26. From the passage, we can learn that Chongqing ____.
    A. is the transportation city of southwestern China B. was built up about 20 centuries ago
    C. is a good place to start a Three Gorges river tour D. has three months’ foggy weather every year

Dealing with a broken friendship can be one of the most heartbreaking situations you go through in life, especially if you’ve been friends with the person for a long time. There are a lot of things that can lead to division between friends, but I think in general real break-ups occur when friends take very different paths in life, and find it harder and harder to relate. Then, even if they don’t have a sudden split due to a major argument, they’ll still find themselves drifting apart (逐渐疏远).
Obviously time plays a big part here. If an argument has taken place, but there is at least the potential for the friendship to be re-established, both people will need some time to sort out the situation. After a while, they may be able to start talking again. The hardest part may be the friendship not being the same as before or not being as close, but this depends on the situations of the division.
People also have a hard time seeing changes in their friends. This is especially serious if your friend has changed for the worse, and you risk getting pulled in the same direction by trying to fix the friendship. In such a situation, it’s often best to ask someone you trust outside the broken friendship —someone who can be objective (客观的) about it —to keep yourself on track if you do decide to try to help your friend.

27. Generally speaking, two friends break up when ______.
    A. there isn’t enough communication between them B. they have a major argument

C. they have different life goals D. they’re separate for a long time

28. What’s the most difficult problem when two friends are reunited?

A.They may not be able to start talking again. B.Their relationship might not be as close as before.

C. They may start quarrelling again. D. They no longer have time and patience.

29. What’s the best thing to do to remain friends following a break-up, especially if one has changed?

  1. Stay on the same track as before. B. Pull the changed friend in the same direction.

C. Make yourself objective. D. Turn to someone reliable and objective.

30. What might be the best title for the passage?
     A. What to Do when Time Pulls Us Apart B. What Does True Friendship Mean?

C. How to Deal with a Broken Friendship D. How to Treat a Changed Friend

范文

Dear sir,

I am writing to say something about food safety, which has caused great concern among the public.

There are some reasons for this problem. Firstly, some of the food producers just care about making money, ignoring its damage to people’s health. Secondly, we fail to recognize the importance of moral education. Thirdly, the lack of adequate laws on those illegal producers enforces the trend.

Safety measures should be taken to deal with the problem. On the one hand, more strict laws should be made to punish the illegal producers and the sellers who break the law. On the other hand, consumers should avoid buying unsafe food. What’s more, the government should strengthen management over the food quality.

In a word, if everyone can make a difference, i firmly believe this problem will be solved in the near future.
