Food sometimes gets poisoned with harmful things. A person who eats such food can get an illness called food poisoning. Food poisoning is usually not serious, but some types are deadly. The symptoms of food poisoning usually begin within hours of eating the poisoned food. Fever is one of the most common symptoms.
Certain microorganisms(微生物) cause most types of food poisoning.Bacteria and other microorganisms can poison eggs, meat, vegetables, and many other foods. After entering the body, these tiny living things release poisons that make people sick.
Some chemicals can also cause food poisoning. They are often added to food while it is being grown, processed,or prepared. For example, many farmers spray chemicals on crops to kill weeds and insects. Some people may have a bad reaction to those chemicals when they eat the crops.
Some plants and animals contain natural poisons that are harmful to people. These include certain kinds of seafood, grains, nuts, seeds, beans, and mushrooms.
When people handle food properly, the risk of food poisoning is very small.Microorganisms multiply rapidly in dirty places and in warm temperatures. This means that people should never touch food with dirty hands or put food on unwashed surfaces. Food should be kept in a refrigerator to stop microorganisms from growing. Meat needs to be cooked thoroughly to kill any dangerous microorganisms. People should also wash food covered with chemicals before eating it. Finally, people should not eat wild mushrooms or other foods that grow in the wild. Some of these foods may contain natural materials that are poisonous to humans. In addition, some types of fish can be poisonous.
Most people recover from food poisoning after a few days of resting and drinking extra water. If people eat natural poisons, they must go to the hospital right away to have their stomachs emptied.
21.Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A.Food when poisoned can make people sick.

Washoe, a female chimpanzee (黑猩猩) believed to be the first non-human to acquire human language, has died of natural causes at the research institute where she was kept.
The chimp died on Tuesday night, according to Roger and Deborah Fouts, co-founders of The Chimpanzee and Human Communications Institute in Washington, where she lived.
Washoe was born in 1965 in Africa, where she was captured by the Air Force and taken to the US for research use in the space program. In 1966, she left the program and began living with two scientists, Allen and Beatrix Gardner, who led a project to teach the chimp American Sign Language (ASL) in Washoe, Nevada, for which it was named. Washoe had been living on Central Washington University’s Ellensburg Campus since 1980. She had a vocabulary of about 250 words. Also, Washoe taught sign language to three younger chimps: Tatu, 31, Loulis, 29, and Dar, 31
Primate (灵长类) researcher Jane Goodall, in Fouts’ book Next of Kin, noted the importance of the work with Washoe. “Roger, through his ongoing conversations with Washoe and her extended family, has opened a window into a chimpanzee’s mind,” Goodall said.
Though previous efforts to teach chimps spoken languages had failed, the researchers believed there was a better chance using signs. But Washoe’s language skills weredisputedby scientists who believed that language is unique to humans. Among those who doubted that chimps could use language were linguist (语言学家) Noam Chomsky and Harvard scientist Steven Pinker. They believed primates simply learn to perform certain acts in order to receive rewards, and do not acquire true language.
25.As for its first task, Washoe was involved with _______.
    A.some space research
    B.a study on African animals
    C.an ASL project
D.the program of training the Air Force
    26.In Goodall’s opinion, teaching Washoe ASL ______.
    A.was not successful
B.led to the book Next of Kin
    C.won honor for Fouts
    D.made a difference
27.In the last paragraph, the underlined word “disputed” probably means “______”.
    A.supported B. studied
    C.questioned D. discussed
28.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The ASL project was first set up in Africa for the study on Washoe.
B.Washoe may communicate with other chimps by signing.
C.Washoe must have been able to speak 250 words or so.
D.The researchers will prove that most chimps could use language.
    C

There’s no doubt that man is the smartest. But do you know what other animals are smart, too?
    Dolphins
Dolphins are very smart. Most of the “tricks” they’re taught to do are actually behavior they would engage in on their own. They love to play, race and generally enjoy their life to the fullest. They speak a language we haven’t yet to completely understand and like all civilized creatures, dolphins’ mothers always provide their young children with guidance and possibly, love.
    Great apes
The great ape family primarily consists of gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans. Their brain chemistry is so similar to humans’ that NASA once used chimpanzees in place of astronauts during many dangerous missions. Gorillas have been taught sign language and orangutans exist in complex familial relationships.
    Elephants
Everyone has heard the phrase “an elephant never forgets”. Elephants establish long-term friendships, recognizing and remembering their friends years later. If an elephant comes upon a fallen friend, it has even been known to feel sad.
    Parrots
As proved by this list, parrots are very smart. They are also the only animals listed that can actually hold a conversation. Some parrots know hundreds of words by imitating humans. The birds are also capable of remembering words and using them intelligently in response to situations.

MONEY – SAVING TIPS FOR DISNEY WORLD

Every time you visit Disney World, there’s something new to see. What began in 1971 as the Magic Kingdom now includes the high – tech, movie-mad Disney and Animal Kingdom .36 How can you save ? As a family guide to Disney World, I've been to the park more than 25 times with my kids , and I've developed a few money-saving tips for you.

●Buy the Five-Day All-in-One Hopper Pass. Even if you're visiting for fewer days , it's a deal (The pass costs $ 229 for visitors aged 10 and up , $ 183 for kids aged three to nine and is free for kids under age three). 37. A single trip to Blizzard Beach , for example , would cost a family of four $100.

  ● 38 The prices at some of the nicer restaurants , especially those in Epcot's World Showcase , are much lower at noontime than at any other time. It's wise to make reservations(预定)before you leave home . Call 407-W-DISNEY .

 ● Become a Gold Card Member. For $ 65 , you can get a Magic Kingdom Club Gold Card (call 1-800-56-DISNEY). Cardholders get up to 20% off Disney hotel rooms , plus prices on character breakfast , theme park tickets and goods from Disney stores .

 ● Don't Pay Extra to See a Character. Character-theme dinner shows are expensive , costing a family of four about $ 140 , and even a character breakfast , where Mickey or Donald Duck joins you for cakes , can set you back $ 50. .39 You can watch the Diamond Horseshoe show , for example , in the Magic Kingdom for no additional cost , while the similarly themed Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue needs expensive tickets .
