Ecobee3 Smarter WiFi Thermostat
Smart thermostats have become the face of smart home technology for most, but depending on what your home is like, it's possible to say the ecobee3 in superior.
Most of the smart thermostats carry the same benefits, including the ecobee3. They can learn your preferences and schedules, and then adjust the temperature accordingly. They're better-looking and more enjoyable to use than the basic pieces of plastic that occupy most households. Their very presence will probably make you more conscious about saving energy. And once you're able to heat up or cool down your house from your phone, without having to get out of bed, you won't want to go back.
If you live in a larger household, the ecobee3 can be much more convenient-- provided you pick up a couple more remote sensors. Yes, it gets pretty expensive at that point, but having those gives you effective control over the temperature in different rooms around your house. In comparison, other thermostats’ measurements are largely limited to the area in which they're installed (安装).
If you live in a smaller place, that's no big deal; the ecobee3 still has distinct advantages. It is touch-enabled and more spacious, making it less annoying when you want to enter a WiFi password, see weather information, and so on.
Still, all the smart thermostats are pretty great. Which one is best just depends on whether you need a whole-home solution or a more straightforward one. For now, if it's the former, go with the ecobee3.

Many years ago, when we first went to Canada, we were driving through Montans to Colorado with our two children. We thought we would find a motel (汽车旅馆) on the way and had not made a booking. As it was getting late, we started looking for a motel, only to find that all were booked.
Finally, around 9p.m. we stopped at a gas station to fill up on gas. My husband asked for a phone book and told the woman at the counter that we were trying to find a motel. He tried for 15 minutes. When he was unsuccessful, the woman, Linda, said she and her family lived nearby and would be happy if we spent the night at her home, My husband was stunned at her offer. She called her son to direct us, since she had to hold fort at the gas station till midnight.
When we reached their home, her husband greeted us. He took out two sleeping bags for the children. He invited us to have coffee and chat while we waited for his wile. When she came back, we asked if we could slip away in the morning so as not to disturb them. They said we were now guests and we would have to have breakfast with them.
We woke up to table set for breakfast. They’d made a mountain of pancakes and bacon. We ate breakfast, and when we were leaving, my husband asked if he could offer some payment. They insisted we were their guests. We left moved by their spirit of hospitality(好客). We were amazed that they would take in a family of total strangers from a different country. We kept in touch for many years. Over the years, we lost touch, but have never forgotten their kindness.

When Mark Levine, an English-language instructor at Beijing’s Minzu University of China, was first invited to attend a Chinese colleague’s wedding in Jiangsu province in 2017, his second year in China, the California native was ready to present a small decorative gift for the new couple as he used to do in the United States.
However, his gesture suddenly seemed inappropriate as he realized the Chinese at the ceremony had red envelopes filled with cash to present rather than a packed gift.
“It’s a little bit embarrassing when you present something that people didn’t expect to receive on certain occasions,” Levine, who used to be a social worker in the US, told China Daily recently.
“In the US, people do that as well but only for close relatives. People would normally give things as presents, while here in China red envelopes are more commonly welcomed.”
It was the first time the 66-year-old discovered the etiquette-including taboos(禁忌)-in gift giving. He was not alone, as the recent controversy following a British minister’s visit to Taipei, Taiwan, revealed.
British Minister of State for Transport Baroness Susan Kramer presented a watch in January to Ko Wen-je, mayor of Taipei, when she visited the city, immediately sparking headlines as she broke a long-held taboo in Chinese culture.
A clock or watch, or zhong in Mandarin, signifies “the end” in Chinese, and many associate it with death. Therefore, giving someone, especially an elder, a clock or watch implies “your time is up”.
Kramer later apologized for the gaffe(失礼), but Ko also came under fire for his “rude” response as he told reporters that he had no use for the watch and would sell it for cash.
However, some expats in China, such as Mark Dreyer, stand by Ko in this particular debate. “When I heard about the story, I felt embarrassed,” said Dreyer, a British citizen who has lived and worked in China since 2007. “After all, ‘don’t give clocks or watches to your hosts’ is on page 1 of most China travel guides. I’m embarrassed by the lack of respect shown by the British for not even reading about the customs beforehand.”"
28. What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph3 refer to?
C. Receiving money. D. Attending weddings.
29. How did the public view Ko’s response to the gift?
30. What was Dreyer’s attitude to the British Minister’s gift?
31. What can we learn from the passage?
D
Average humans can consume 15 or more drinks in plastic bottles a month. If you were born after 1978, and live until 80 years old, you will leave behind a minimum of 14, 400 plastic bottles on this planet. These bottles take hundreds of years to break down into tiny pieces of plastic, never to completely disappear. Most of the waste is consumed by fish and birds, which has shortened their lifetime greatly.
The Plastic Bottle Village is just a great idea that might finally save us from being buried in plastic. It's a community in Panama that is going to be made of used bottles. The design process begins with building steel frames, which are then filled with these bottles. Once this step is complete, and electrical and plumbing (管道装置) lines are put inside, the plastic walls are covered by concrete--both inside and outside. So no one will actually be able to tell that the walls are made of plastic. Besides, the material will keep the house 17℃ cooler than the outside, which is the biggest benefit to people living inside.
The village is the brainchild (主意) of Robert Bezeau with the intention of setting up several environmental projects. Having started a recycling program four years ago, during which a number of plastic bottles were collected, he started to think of how they could be put to use, Soon enough, he decided to use them to build houses, and came up with a basic idea for the construction process.
The project hopes to make people conscious of the waste that these bottles create so that they can do more to protect the environment. The village will also create an education center that will teach individuals from the world how to reuse plastic bottles as construction materials for shelter. Recycled bottles could neutralize the negative effect of your passage on this planet, and move closer to leaving only your “footprints”.
32. What does Paragraph 1 intend to tell us?
33. What is the biggest benefit to people living in the Plastic Bottle Village?
34. Which of the following words can best describe Robert?
35. The main purpose of Robert's projects is to .
