One of the best-known American writers of children’s books is Alfred Strong, or Doctor Strong, as he is better known to readers everywhere. Now, an art show called Doctor Strong From Then to Now is traveling around the United States. The pictures and drawings show the history of Doctor Strong.
Doctor Strong first became famous almost fifty years ago when his first children’s book was published. Since then, he has written forty-five books that have sold more than one hundred million copies around the world.
Doctor Strong’s books are known for their easy use of words and colorful, hand-drawn pictures. These drawings bring life to his imaginary creatures: The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and hundreds of others.
The San Diego Museum, in California, organized the art show. It included about three hundred Doctor Strong’s original drawings and some of his writings.
Most of Doctor Strong’s books, although written in a funny way, have serious messages. For example, in Mc Elligot’s Pool, he describes the danger of pollution. He discussed the arms race in The Butter Battle Book, written in 1984.
Doctor Strong is almost eight-four years old now. He says he never planned to write stories just for children. He says he writes sorties that interest people of all ages. He says he used easy words so that everyone, even a child, can understand.

I have been homeschooled my entire life. I do know that I would not be who I am today if I had not been homeschooled.
One of the things I think is so great about homeschooling is that every family is different. Some homeschool parents assign a week’s worth of schoolwork on Monday and tell the kids to complete it when they get to it during the week; others sit down with their kids and do school for a certain amount of time each day. It’s entirely up to the family.
Another thing that’s great is that if I don’t understand something, my mom can sit down with me and help me one-on-one until it clicks. Because she only has three students to teach, she has more time to make sure we all understand our work.
Being homeschooled, I don’t think that my life lacks anything. I know that I’m getting a good education and, contrary to what many people think, homeschoolers are not necessarily socially deprived (剥夺). My family belongs to homeschool group, and if we ever want to hang out with other homeschoolers we can. I’m a fourteen-year-old girl with many friends, both boys and girls.
Yes, I’m somewhat different from everyone else---but everyone is unique. If everyone was the same, where would the variety be? I’m different in many ways, but I’m also similar to other teens in many ways, too. I love Katy Perry and the Black Eyed Peas. I like chatting and hanging out with friends, and I like talking on the phone.
I take pride in the fact that I’m homeschooled. I love to be different, and I love to be who I am. Homeschooling is the right thing for me , and if my mom offered me the chance to go to public school I would turn it down immediately.
I am homeschooled, and that is something I am and will continue to be proud of.
24. How does the writer feel about her present life?
A. WorriedB. ConfusedC. SatisfiedD. Disappointed

B. allows her to have more fun
C. makes her do more homework
D. provides her with more freedom
26. Many people believe that homeschooling _____.
A. offers better education for the kids
B. helps the kids to make more friends
C. reduces the kids’ opportunities to communicate with others
D. improves the relationship between the kids and their patents
27. The writer mentions Katy and the Black Eyed Peas in the text to show that _____.
A. she is similar to others
B. she has a special hobby
C. she has a unique character
D. she is different from others

Just when parents are paying off bills for new school clothes and supplies, teenagers may need more money for other necessities. All these expenses can stress the family’s budget, said a New Mexico State University consumer education specialist.
Many social activities like drama clubs that continue throughout the school year require money, said Susan Wright with NMSU’s Cooperative Extension Service. It’s sometimes difficult for teenagers to understand why parents don’t have unlimited resources.
“Parents can help avoid problems by including children in family financial discussions and giving them opportunities to assume responsibility for some of their own expenses,” she said. “This will help them move towards financial independence.”
Wright offered parents these tips to help teenagers become good financial managers:
● Consider giving teens an allowance(零花钱). Decide what expenses the allowance should cover and let teens budget to meet those needs. Giving an allowance should not mean the family spends more. It simply shifts the responsibility to teens to manage money.
● Teach teens how to shop. Talk about comparative shopping, reading labels and interpreting advertisements. Explain the importance of planning ahead to cover necessary purchases.
● Explain the family’s financial situation---income and outgo. If teens are old enough to spend your money, they should understand where it comes from and how it needs to be used. Be sure they understand the importance of setting financial goals and planning for the family’s future needs.
资*源%库 $来&源:$来&源:● Teach teens how to use and manage a checking and savings account. Go over monthly bank statements together to show them how to justify checking accounts. Help teens understand the importance of keeping good records and knowing where money goes.
“It’s important that parents help their teenagers develop sound financial management practices,” Wright said. “The best way to do that is to set a good example. Be open and supportive and resist the temptation to make financial decisions for them. After all, it won’t be long until they will be out in the real world making decisions on their own.”

A. give teens as much pocket money as possible

The Future Stars
General introduction
The Future Stars was set up in 1988 as a non-profit service center for child development devoted to providing quality child care in a loving and educational environment for children 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Our finds mainly come from public donations.
A healthy curiosity for learning is the most important quality for early childhood development. We aim at offering high quality developmentally age-appropriate activities for early childhood, the most critical time of child development, so that they can do better after they start formal schooling.
Hours of operation
Child care will be provided for the child from7:00a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday(except for holidays). Children may not arrive before 7:00a.m. or remain after 6:00 p.m. Should an emergency arise, the parent should immediately make us know in consideration of our work arrangements. A late charge of $ 1.00 per minute will be assessed if the child is not picked up by 6:05 p.m. Charges for these services are to be paid directly to the staff person that has been looking after your child until your arrival; not to the center. Failure to pay late charges may affect continued services with the center.
Parking
Dropping off and picking up your child can be made from the two main areas, Spring Street and Seventh Street. Parking is free for parents coming to visit their children in our center. Please do not leave your purse or valuables in your car and be sure to lock your vehicle.
Tuition(学费)
When it has been confirmed that a position is available for your child, you must pay a registration fee of $200 per child.
The weekly tuition fee is $ 98.00. You can make payments either by credit card or in cash on Monday every week. If your payment is not made by Tuesday at 9:00a.m., you will be charged a $25.00 late fee.
