Whether it is a drop of the head or a roll of the eyes, we can tell others how we’re feeling without saying a word.
According to Allan Pease, author of Body Language in the Workplace, our ability to express ourselves can influence our success. Having spent much of his time focusing on the communication skills of adults, Mr Pease is now turning his attention to educating children on the importance of understanding body language.
Mr Pease has created a 10-week course aimed to teach children the basics of body language and has been teaching it to a class of seven-year-old Sunshine Coast Grammar School students. “Over 10 weeks these children learned how to introduce themselves, impress people quickly, use the power of facial expressions, and use friendly gestures to avoid bad signals. ” he said.
Mr Pease said he decided to start the programme after seeing the poor communication skills shown by young people at a high school graduation ceremony. “A friend of mine invited me to their child’s graduation ceremony and I was appalled by what I saw.” he said. “The star students were asked to make a short talk and they were shocking, dragging their feet across the floor. It was a shame.”
“The youth really don’t make good impressions and that’s because they aren’t taught how to carry themselves in a correct manner,” Mr Pease said. “To make matters worse, these people are told to be themselves. That’s bad advice.”
After the success of his course, Mr Pease hopes to have the programme introduced into schools across Australia. “I’d like to introduce it to kids and teens through a series of short films that teachers can use,” he said. “Good communication skills are so important and these need to be introduced to young people.”

A. To make a few films.
B. To write a book about children’s body language.
C. To give kids and teens good advice on interviews.

Age discrimination (歧视) is a large problem in the United States today. Teenagers are considered dishonest, old people are considered incapable (无能力的), kids considered noisy.
Picture this: a teenage boy, with a group of friends, walks laughing into a store. They read some magazines, walk by the candy, and then walk out without buying anything. What’s the first thought of this? It might be that they stole something. Maybe the employees would even go as far as to call the police about these boys, who didn’t steal anything but were discriminated against simply because they were “teenage boys”.
This happens every day, all over America. We don’t tell the kids much, because they “won’t understand”, they’re “too young”. We feel surprised when we see old people run marathons, or even take part in simple fun activities such as volleyball or swimming, because they are “old”, and “incapable”.
People who are discriminated against, no matter what the reason, can be hurt by it. They can be offended, because it isn’t something they can help. Like my example of the teenage boy above, he was simply having fun as he walked into the store. He wasn’t planning to steal anything or to cause any trouble; he could even be one of the best students in school, but he was discriminated against for being a teenager.
Of course, this doesn’t mean you should persuade your grandparents right away to run a marathon, but give them a little trust. They are capable of doing things we are, and sometimes more. So next time you tell your little brother that he’s “too young to understand” or think that your grandmother is “too old” to do sports, listen to yourself. I know you are offended by being considered as a teenager, so how do you think they feel? Remember, it all hurts. Everyone should have equal opportunities, no matter how old he is.
25.The underlined word “It” in Paragraph 2 refers to “ ______”.
A. The factB. The result
C. The thoughtD. The problem
26.The author mentions the teenage boy in Paragraph 2 to show that ______.
A. people should give more opportunities to teenagers
B. age discrimination is serious in today’s world
C. teenagers should behave in a proper way
D. it’s really hard to depend on teenagers
27.The author holds the view that ______.
A. we shouldn’t judge others by their age
B. we should try to help incapable people
C. we should encourage old people to run marathons
D. we shouldn’t enter a store if we don’t want to buy anything
28.The text mainly discusses ______.
A. an unfortunate teenagerB. different age groups
C. equal opportunitiesD. a social problem

Money, jewels and important documents may not be the only valuables placed in banks these days. Some mothers store their breast milk (母乳) in banks.
There are ten milk banks across the United States, where mothers can donate their extra milk to other women’s babies.
Experts say breast milk is the best food for babies. The World Health Organization (WHO) says it is the only food babies should get during the first six months of life, in most cases. Breast milk is especially important for babies born too early. Sometimes these premature (早熟的) babies must stay in the hospital for many weeks.
James Cameron is a doctor who treats the newborns at Lutheran Children’s Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He says breast milk is almost like medicine.
Doctor James Cameron says, “The fact is that there are so many different proteins and specialized sugars in the breast milk that it can help provide immunity(免疫性). It’s very important for the health of the newborns.
Lucy Baur lives near Fort Wayne. She breasted both her children and always had more milk than they needed. She wanted to donate to the Indiana Mothers Milk Bank in Indianapolis. But freezing and shipping milk can be expensive. Then, a station opened near her home.
Milk donations in the United States work like this. Donors (捐赠者) must be willing to provide almost three liters of breast milk. They freeze the milk and take it to the station. There, employees warm the milk and mix it with other mothers’ milk. Then, the milk is heated to kill bacteria. After that, the technicians test samples (样本) of all the milk to make sure they are safe and healthful. The milk is re-frozen and sent to the main milk bank. The milk bank transports the milk to hospitals to feed premature or sick babies.
Donors are tested for diseases before any milk is accepted. They are not permitted to smoke, use illegal drugs or drink too much alcohol.
29.Breast milk can ______.
A. provide fat and sugarB. bring immunity against diseases
C. be sold at a high priceD. serve as medicine
30.Lucy Baur wanted to donate to the Indiana Mothers Milk Bank because ______.
A. a station opened near her homeB. she had extra breast milk
C. breast milk is expensiveD. she didn’t smoke, nor did she drink alcohol
31.The passage mainly talks about ______.
A. the donation of breast milk in the United States
B. the serious situation of premature babies

Watching TV is a very popular pastime (消遣) in the UK but what kind of programmes do British people like to watch? Well, the most-watched TV programmes every week are very popular dramas that are usually on at least four times every week. They are dramas based in one neighbourhood that try to describe ordinary life in the UK --- we call these dramas ‘soap operas’ or ‘soaps’.
In the early days of TV, there were often dramas on during the day. Back in those days, it was traditional for the husband to go out to work and for the wife to stay at home and look after the house and the children. Most of these daytime dramas were aimed at entertaining the housewives who would traditionally be at home, probably doing the washing. Companies selling washing powder would advertise their products at times when these dramas were on, and sometimes those companies would even sponsor (赞助) the drama. Therefore the word ‘soap’ was used.
So what about the word opera? Well, that’s because these dramas are often an exaggeration (夸大) of real life. They are supposed to represent ordinary life but to make them entertaining, lots of dramatic events like murders, divorces, affairs (风流韵事) etc. all happen probably much more regularly than they would in a normal neighbourhood.
Most soap operas these days are shown in the evening. Each show will have several different storylines happening at once that continue over several shows. The same cast members will appear in every show too.
There are lots of different soaps on in the UK on different channels but there are three main popular ones. ‘Coronation Street’ has been on since 1960. It is set in a suburb of Manchester and it’s supposed to represent working class life in the north of England. Then there’s ‘Eastenders’ which started in 1985, set in the East End of London and ‘Emmerdale’, which is set on a farm in Yorkshire, in the north of England.
32.The text is mainly about ______.
A. some popular soap operas
B. how people spend their spare time in the UK
C. why soap opera is so called
D. how companies sell soaps
33.Which opera should you watch if you want to learn about people’s life in London?
A. Coronation Street.B. Eastenders.
C. Emmerdale.D. None of the above.
34.The underlined part “cast members” in paragraph 4 probably means ______.
A. actors and actresses
B. people who sell washing powder
C. characters in Coronation Street
D. opera producers
35.We may infer from the second paragraph that ______.
A. today more women go to work
B. soap operas were produced only for women
C. men didn’t like watching TV
D. companies often sold washing powder from door to door

Things That May Make You Old
1. Your pillowcase (枕套)
Getting enough sleep is always a good thing. 36 Experts say it can take moisture (水分) away from your body which, in turn, can age skin. What’s worse, your pillowcase also can leave wrinkles on your face. To fight the problem, you should buy a silk pillow cover because they actually don’t draw moisture from your face the way other pillowcases can.
2. Smiling
You may look nice with a smile on your face. 37 Skin loses flexibility (柔性) as it ages and doesn’t have the ability to spring back into place like it did when you were younger.
3. Central Air And Heating
Central heating and air conditioning can lead to dry skin. 38 Best to warm or cool your body by putting on or taking off clothes rather than turning up the heat or air conditioner.
4. Drinking from bottles
It may be hard to believe but the process of drinking from a bottle can lead to wrinkles around the mouth. Face cream can help. 39
5. Watching TV
After the age of 25, every hour of TV you want shortens your life by 21.8 minutes, says a 2011 study by researchers in Australia. Indeed, those who watch six or more hours a day of TV apparently live 4.8 years less than those who don’t watch TV. 40

Nowadays, with the growth of the Internet, many students spend too much time online, surfing different web pages or playing games. Their interest in reading drops greatly.
I think it is a good idea to do some reading in our spare time. As is known to all, reading can broaden our horizons and enrich our knowledge in different fields. It is also a good help to our study. If we read more, we can understand what we learn in class better and get good grades. In other words, books are our good teachers and wise friends.
Therefore, it is necessary to develop a good habit of reading and try to read as many good books as we can.
