My friend Jennifer was going to be at my school! I was convinced that we would be best
buds. She introduced me to her friend Amy and we had lots of fun together. But things
started to change. Jennifer wanted to be the" leader" of our little group. She was
controlling, and I couldn't make new friends. If so, she would decide that I was"mad at
her." Pretty soon being Jennifer's friend was a struggle
I always waited for Jennifer and Amy after class, but sometimes when they left, they'd
walk right past me as if they couldn't even see me
We often gossiped about people, and I soon realized that nobody was good enough for
Jennifer. She had a list of bad things about everybody, even Amy, and about me, I guess
I had changed--I became moody, depressed, and lonely. I spent days trying not to cry. I
felt so left out
Finally, something snapped. I was sick of having to battle for friendship. I stopped
sitting with Jennifer at lunch and waiting for her after class. Jennifer quickly announced I was"mad at her." I said,"I'm not mad, I just want to make more friends." But with
Jennifer, it was all or nothing, and she was convinced I was mad at her. So boom, our
friendship fell to pieces
It was tough at first, but I found many girls whom Jennifer had classified as" moody
or" mean ” to be the sweetest , friendliest people in the world
Now, I have tons of friends. They support me when I am sad, and I support them. We
have fun together and I love them all. It amazes me how easy our friendship is. There is no struggling to be on top-we are all equal. It doesn't matter to me if two of them walk away or buy friendship necklaces together. It doesn't hurt my feelings or make me feel alone.
lost a frienn friend, but I am a happier person now
24. The writer thought Jennifer _.
25. What does the underlined part"something snapped" mean?
26. The writer decided to break up with Jennifer because_.
27. What can be inferred from the passage?

Price is a researcher at the University of Texas, Dallas. His work focuses on solving a
problem about pain; why does pain continue even after injuries heal?
Price experienced this himself from basketball injuries that hurt long after the initial
injury. To find the answer, Price and his colleagues focused on chemical signals sent inside
nerve ( 神经 ) cells . They found that a lot of chemical pathways used by these signals were
activated inside nerves immediately after an injury, but just two pathways remained activated
when pain continued
"We had this great idea a long time ago," said Price."We would cut off one of these
pathways, and that would solve pain." There was one small problem with this really great
idea. Shutting down just one pathway had no effect on pain
But they eventually found something that seemed to shut down both pathways. It was a natural thing called resveratrol ( 白藜芦醇 ) . It 's contained in red wine , which is suppose to have all sorts of healthful effects. Wine, however, doesn't have enough resveratrol to
provide any real benefits. But Price and his colleagues were able to show that using
concentrated resveratrol in a cream applied to the skin reduced pain in animals
Here comes the dilemma. When something appears to work in animals, the next step is
a clinical trial to test its safety in people. However, clinical trials are expensive, and"we
couldn't raise the money to do it," Price said. Therefore, he is still hoping to find a
clinician who has the intention and the money to cooperate with him on such a trial
28. What does the phrase"this great idea" in paragraph 3 reser to?
29. What can you infer from the text?
30. Why hasn't Price's treatment come onto the market yet?
31. What is the aim of writing this article?
D
"The Battle of the Sexes" is a reminder of where we've been and where we are going.
The film - starring Emma Stone as tennis champion and feminist ( 女权主义者 ) Billie
Jean King-provides its audience with an accurate description of progress as we know it
difficult, but worth it in every sense of the word.
This difficulty was brought to light early in the film during a disagreement between
King, Gladys Heldman (World Tennis Magazine founder, played by Sarah Silverman) and
Jack Kramer (Association of Tennis Professionals backer, played by Bill Pullman
King and Heldman were annoyed by the unfair pay proposed by Kramer for the Pacific
Southwest Tennis Tournament, where the women were intended to make eight times less total
prize money than the men. But Kramer put forward his explanation worthy of an eye roll;
"It's not your fault, it's just biology. The men are faster, stronger. They are simply more
exciting to watch.
In response to Kramer, the two women, along with eight other female players,
boycotted the unfair pay by starting a tour of their own: the Virginia Slims Tour, which set
the groundwork for the Women's Tennis Association
Contrary to Kramer's original reasons and beliefs are the results of the 2017 Women's
US Open. According to Sports Media Watch, the women's final between Americans Sloane
Stephens and Madison Keys attracted 1.9 million viewers, while the men's sinal seaturing
Rafael Nadal attracted 400,000 fewer.
Without Heldman and her"Original Nine", one can't help but question whether both
the WNBA and U. S. Women's National Soccer Team would have come into being.
While Game One of the 2017 WNBA Finals enjoyed a 20 percent increase in
viewership, and the USWNST is the most-viewed soccer team in the States, both institutions
still strive for equal pay
If we've learned anything from King's story, it's to keep going
It just takes generations, it doesn't happen overnight," King said in an interview with
former USWNST player Julie Foudy
Progress cannot be denied, but there are still more mountains to move.
32. We can learn from the passage that
33. King's story tells the readers that
34. Because of Heldman and her"Original Nine", in the United States
35. What may be the best title for the passage?
C. Determination and hard work help D. Feminists on the winning side
第二节 ( 共 5 小题 ; 每小题 2 分 , 满分 10 分 )
根据短文内容 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项 。 选项中有两项为多余选项。
It is said that most people have not more than 30 friends at any given time, and 400
over the course of their lives. However, on social networking sites, most users have about
150 friends.36.
37 There are no instructions about how to make friends, how to keep friendships
going, and how to end friendships if we want to move on. People have very different
opinions about this. Some people would die for their friends and value them more than
family. Others say that friends are temporary, only there to help each other until they are no longer needed .38
Because of these dilfcrcnt definitions of friendship, it is ctlsy to bc unlluppy about our friendships. We may want them to be deeper or closer, or we may want to have more friends in our lives. Sometimes we simply do not have the time to develop our friendships, or we fear we have left it too late in life to start. If we move to another country or city, we have to find ways to make new friends again.
39 We should not think that it could be too late to build friendships. We also need to understand that the need to be around other people is one that is shared by many. Therefore, we should not be too frightened about starting to talk to people who in the future may become our friends. 40 Remember what people say: strangers are friends we have not met yet

Dear Daniel, I am so delighted to have received your letter. These days, I spend almost all of my time
studying for the College Entrance Exam. I study from morning until midnight, taking many
practice exams. I really look forward to the upcoming summer after the Exam, when I plan to
travel with my friends, enjoying ourselves without the worry about the Exam any longer. It’s a pity that I cannot come to America this summer, as I must prepare for university. Instead, I would like to invite you to come to China to visit me! You can taste delicious Chinese
food, visit many interesting places, and meet my friends and family. I hope you will consider
traveling to China. Please let me know what you think about this plan. Yours, Li Hua
