Relax. He is the same little boy you loved yesterday. I smiled, trying to hold back the tears. “No he isn’t. Yesterday I dreamed he would be an astronaut. Today I am hoping he will learn to talk.”

It was like some sort of cosmic joke. I could still recall the day that determined my fate. My casually mentioning Wyatt’s behavior to Dr. Martin aroused his worries. He started asking me questions about Wyatt’s activities, speech pattern and emotions. I still rememberhow desperate and shocking I felt when he said, “He almost sounds autistic(自闭症的).”

I started to hide Wyatt from my friends and neighbors especially from a good friend. For eight months a friend and I had been pregnant together. Our boys were six days apart. We used to have long phone talks about our babies to share some fun and loss. It was too painful to let others know about my boy acting strange.

It was a Thursday afternoon and I found one half of a great pair of kitchen scissors was missing. I knew Wyatt had taken the missing blade.

“Wyatt,” I began as patiently as I could, “Do you see this” I held up the blade. “Do you know what this is?”

Wyatt stuffed a bunch of Fruit Loops in his mouth. No response.

I didn’t know what to do. It was really hard. “Wyatt,” I tried once more, “Mommy wants these scissors. It will make Mommy so happy if you bring me the scissors.”

He just ran away, but five minutes later, he returned, with a blade in the right hand! I immediately ran over and took it from him.

“Wyatt!” I hugged him. “Thank you for bringing me the scissors! Good job! You did it!”

Wyatt laughed, looked me straight in the eye and said, “Mommy so happy!”

I was on the verge of tears. Why did I hide him from others as if he were some dark and terrible secret No! He was my pride. It was a long, hard battle to get him to this point, expressing his wants and needs. In fact, each new day brings out a new set of challenges and we have learned a lot about fighting this thing called autism. At 6 AM, most of us are lucky if we have the energy to reach for a cup of coffee. Mornings may be rough, but hold off on sleeping in. There are perks to waking up with the sun, and we've got some tips on making it easier.
The old “I’m just too tired” complaint may be more than a sorry excuse for waking up late. Research suggests there are biological differences between early larks, who wake up at the same time every morning and feel most active around 9 AM, and night owls, who get more stuff done once the sun goes down. And it may get easier to greet the day at dawn as we get older, thanks to body clock changes as we age .
It turns out the early bird may get more than the worm. According to self-reports from college students, those who wake up earlier feel more optimistic and productivethan those who rise later. Other studies have found morning larks tend to be harder working and conscientious than night owls.
Another study of university undergraduates found those who said they function better in the morning received higher grades than those who preferred the evening That’s possibly because morning risers are more likely to get to class on time or to forgo late-night partying. Researchers also suggest memory may improve during sleep, so getting to bed earlier in preparation for a morning alarm could help those exam notes soak in.
Being a morning person may actually be good for our health, too. When UK researchers questioned adults about their sleep habits, they found people who stay under the covers on the weekdays until 9 AM are more likely to be stressed, overweight, and depressed than those who get up at 7 AM. Another study found teenagers who went to bed and woke up late were less inclined to hit the gym and more likely to be overweight than those who went to bed and woke up early. Talk about waking up on the wrong side of the bed.
    36. According to the passage, the “I’m just too tired” complaint was __________.
    A. many teenagers reason for getting up late
    B. an excuse to avoid waking up early
    C. a good reason of staying in bed
    D. evidence that teenagers are under great pressure
    37. What did the underlined sentence mean in para. 4?
    A. People who get up early benefit a lot.
    B. Only early birds can hunt worms.
    C. People who get up early get make a better living.
    D. We should get up as early as birds
    38. Which of the following is not the advantage of getting up early?
    A. a more positive life attitude
    B. a more diligent working attitude.
    C. a more healthy lifestyle
    D. a better eating habit
    39. The students who get up early tend to receive higher grades for the following reasons except that _______________.
    A. sleep helps them improve their memory
    B. they are punctual for the classes
    C. they can resist the distraction of late-night entertainment
    D. they are more intelligent in studying.
    40. Which section of newspaper does the passage come from?

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.” My friend’s father used to say that all the time. He was in his mid-40s.
A lot of people live their lives having no clue what they want. They usually follow the American Dream without a second thought, just because that’s what’s expected of them.
If you ask me, that’s a pretty terrible way to live your life. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I’d like to point out that you have only one life; make the most out of it and do things that make you happy. And you should start right now!
If you don’t know what you really want in life, you’re not alone. Thousands, if not millions, of people wander the earth every day without a quest. If you don’t want to spend your life wandering aimlessly, you can use the following tips to find out exactly what you want in life.
First, be selfish. You can’t pinpoint exactly what you want in life if you’re constantly sacrificing your time and dreams for other people. You have to put yourself first. Ask yourself: If you weren’t tied down by your job, family, friends, or anything else, then what would you be doing right now? Always remember that it’s okay to put yourself first, because if you don’t, then no one else will.
Second, don’t feel bad for being selfish. It’s your life. It’s time for you to live it exactly the way you want to. If you constantly regret things you did or didn’t do in the past, then you won’t be able to move forward. Don’t live in the past. Live in the present…and the future!
Figure out what you need is another way. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what you need. Sit down and think about what you need the most. Is it your family? The freedom to express yourself? Love? Something else? If it helps, you can make a list of priorities. Also think about the kind of legacy you want to leave behind.
Remember, life doesn’t always go how you want it. Don’t feel disappointed as your plans stray. Take control. Instead of breaking down, try your best to adapt to the changes. You will get there someday. You’re just taking a little detour. Sometimes a positive attitude is all you need to keep going.
    41. The author used his friends fathers example to show that ___________.
    A. it is difficult for a middle-aged man to realize his dream

      第二节 信息匹配(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
      阅读下列应用文及相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息,请在答题卡上将对应题号的乡音选项字母涂黑。
      以下是处理困境的一些小方法
A.While it may feel like your world is crashing around you, this rough time does not, ultimately, define your life. From family to being healthy, it's best to recognize the positive things in your life. It definitely helps ease the pain of a negative situation.
  2. According to a quote from Steven Furtick,"The reason why we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone's highlight reel." When you're struggling through a tough situation, comparing yourself is the last thing you should be doing. You have no idea what struggles another person could be going through, so instead of comparing, you should look at the happiness within yourself.
  3. Although it may seem challenging to accept a negative situation, it's your best bet in moving toward a resolution. You can't change what already happened; you can only focus on how to improve the circumstances now.
  4. Now that all is said and done, it's time to start looking ahead to the future. Leave the past behind you, and begin looking to a brighter tomorrow. Change begins and ends with you, and clinging to a past event won't help alter it. Work on building a better future for yourself; it all starts with a positive mindset.
  5. The best way to overcome a negative time is to be determined to find a way out of it. If you don't like the way something is, do what you can in your power to change it. In financial situations, you can work on a budget and prioritize your costs. In a fight with a loved one, you can take some time to cool down and amend things by talking it out.
  6. Having a support system is essential for any tough moment. Family members, significant others, and best friends are the people you should confide in when going through a distressing time. These people are the ones who know you best and can give you advice from an outside perspective. Besides, it doesn't hurt having someone you love and care for in your corner rooting you on.

以下是处在困境中的人的信息。

46. As a senior three student, Denny is sad to find that he has wasted too much time playing computer games. Now he is putting all his efforts in studying, hoping to be admitted to his dream university, but he finds it a great challenge to catch up with his classmates.

47.Aurora, a girl from a remote village, feels herself inferior after she entered university. She was jealous of her dorm mates’ fashionable clothes, a wide range of knowledge and fluent English.

48. James is an optimistic and outgoing boy, but last week he had quarrels with his best friend, so now they were stuck in a cold war. James is annoyed and regretful.

49. Hard as he has tried, Kevin fails the college entrance examination. Disappointed and upset, it seems to him that the world is at an end.

第二节 读写任务(共1小题,满分25分)

While walking across the desert, one man was slapped by his best friend in the face but he chose to forgive him. Then he was saved by his best friend and he chose to remember it forever.

As for me, I would readily choose to forgive others instead of quarrelling or fighting if I felt hurt by them. As is known, forgiving others is the best way to remove the consequence of a conflict and contributes to a harmonious relationship.

This reminds me of one of my experiences. Once, one of my best friends wronged me for stealing his money, which hurt me badly. At first, I wanted to hurt him back, but finally I chose to forgive him after thinking twice. We analyzed the whole thing together and he realized his misunderstanding. After that, he was moved and our relationship became closer.

There is no doubt that forgiveness is of great importance in our life.First, forgiveness contributes to building up a harmonious relationship with others. Besides, forgiving people are considered more easy-going and trustworthy, which helps them make more friends and have more chances to succeed. Last but not least, only by letting go of past conflicts can we have a good mood and live a healthy and happy life.
